The Holy Ghost in Our Lives

From the September 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many think of the Holy Ghost as something mysterious, but if they will study Bible passages containing references to it, together with references to it in Mrs. Eddy's writings, this sense of mystery will be dispelled. They will find that the Holy Ghost is ever with them, guiding them, healing them, leading them to higher realms of thinking and living.

Mrs. Eddy's definition of "Holy Ghost" in the Glossary of Science and Health is: "Divine Science; the development of eternal Life, Truth, and Love." Science and Health, p. 588; Who does not desire that an eternal sense of Life develop in his experience? Who does not yearn for everlasting Truth to be unfolded to him? Who does not earnestly long for infinite Love to be established in his heart forever and ever? Then let us turn to our Way-shower and Saviour, Christ Jesus, to learn how he let the Holy Ghost develop in his life.

We read in Matthew that Jesus' mother, Mary, "was found with child of the Holy Ghost." Matt. 1:18; Jesus' appearing was a proof of the fatherhood of God. Mary's pure sense of the presence of the Holy Ghost brought forth her child, and this "development of eternal Life, Truth, and Love" went on throughout his life. When he was only twelve years old, such a full measure of the Holy Ghost was his that he asked and answered questions with the most learned men. When he began his public mission, he healed sin and sickness and even raised the dead. He taught his disciples also to do this healing work.
