Testimonies of Healing

I would like to express my sincere gratitude...

From the December 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the many blessings Christian Science has brought me. One was the healing of an acute attack of food poisoning that occurred some time ago. I awoke during the early hours one morning with pain. The pain became acute and was accompanied by extreme weakness. When I was almost losing consciousness and felt I had better call my husband to come to me, the thought came to call on God. I lifted my thought to God, divine Mind, for help, and at once the answer came in these words from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 384): "We should relieve our minds from the depressing thought that we have transgressed a material law and must of necessity pay the penalty."

I then recalled that I had been afraid that some crab meat I had eaten during the day might not have been fresh and was the cause of the trouble, so I at once corrected this thought with an acknowledgment of God as the only cause and creator. I realized that the Bible and the textbook, Science and Health, teach that man is a compound idea of God, made in God's image and likeness, and that therefore I was under the control of the spiritual law of God, not the material law of mortal mind. I held to that truth with rejoicing and at once felt strong. I returned to my rest and slept until morning, when I awoke healed and could go about my usual duties completely free. I am most grateful for this experience because it always brings to mind that precious verse from the Bible (Ps. 46:1) "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." This Bible truth was proved.

Another experience of healing I wish to relate was that of a growth on my eyelid. It had been there for several years. I endeavored to pray about it, as we are taught to do in Christian Science, but it was getting larger and was inflamed and painful in the mornings. I was becoming discouraged, but one day it came to me forcibly to do some specific studying to gain a better understanding of God. (I was not thinking of the growth at the time, for it did not bother me during the day). As I opened my Concordance to Science and Health, the first words to catch my eye were "spiritual growth." I studied several references on this subject from the textbook and gained much inspiration.
