Philosophers and theologians have delved into the nature and behavior of the human race for thousands of years. In general, their conclusions have classified man as a composite of physicality and mind, governed more or less by instinct, heredity, and reason.
It was not until our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, brought forth her discovery of spiritual reality, a discovery in accord with the Scriptures, that a clear statement of the nature of man was presented to the world. She was not satisfied with conclusions that left man a spiritual waif, separated from his divine source.
Mrs. Eddy states: "Man is the reflection of Soul. He is the direct opposite of material sensation, and there is but one Ego."Science and Health, p. 249; She turned away from the popular concept of a creation based on matter and presented man as the natural and consistent expression of Mind, Spirit. She saw that Mind is the only cause and the source of all intelligence, action, power, and law. Her pure thought captured the true concept of God in universal terms and saw His omnipresence, omniscience, and omnipotence as the spiritual axis upon which all creation turns. Christian Science alone restores individuals to their primitive and unfallen state—the idea, image, or reflection, of infinite Mind.
