A few years ago sores appeared on the upper portion of my body, especially on my head and ears. They were constantly draining, and the condition was frightening. I did not seek a name for this error from the medical profession, although aggressive mental suggestion argued that if I did not consult a doctor the condition could prove fatal.
I felt I was having an experience similar to that of Job in the Bible. He, too, had been visited at one period with running sores. I had much fear to overcome. My fear was dissipated to a great degree when I decided to stop listening to the fleshly arguments and to trust God completely and prove my understanding of Christian Science. Class instruction some years prior to this had given me a firm foundation.
Help was immediately sought from a Christian Science practitioner. The following statement of Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health was held to: "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive" (p. 463). I pondered the word "properly" in the above statement, and after conferring with the practitioner, I thought that the word "properly" could be taken to mean immediately, effectively, and permanently.
