It is with a grateful heart for the many healings my family and I have received through Christian Science that I submit my testimony.
When I was in my late teens and a student in the Christian Science Sunday School, I witnessed my first healing in Christian Science. A crushed and mangled forefinger was healed in four weeks, although the company physician where I was employed said it would be necessary to amputate my finger. I depended entirely on Christian Science for healing, holding steadfastly to Mary Baker Eddy's statement in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 393), "Your body would suffer no more from tension or wounds than the trunk of a tree which you gash or the electric wire which you stretch, were it not for mortal mind." A new nail grew, and I have complete freedom in the use of my finger. This experience gave me confidence later to rely on Christian Science for any problem that presented itself in the rearing of a family of five children. There were many healings of so-called children's diseases, such as measles, chicken pox, whooping cough, colds, mumps, and impetigo. Many disappeared with one Christian Science treatment and left no discordant aftereffects.
One outstanding healing of many years ago was that of a broken back. I was thrown violently against cement steps. A half hour after a Christian Science practitioner began to pray for me, as I was lying in bed, I had a strong urge to turn on my side. There came a feeling as if hands were turning me over gently, and I felt and heard bones going back in place. My breathing became natural. This was witnessed by members of my family. Four weeks later I testified about this healing in our branch church.
