Peace, Security, and Science

From the April 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus' birth in Bethlehem was heralded by the angelic promise of "on earth peace." Luke 2:14; This promise was not given as though it were conditional on time; it promised immediate peace. Years later, speaking to his disciples of the Christ he manifested, Jesus emphasized the present availability of peace. "Peace I leave with you," he said, "my peace I give unto you." John 14:27;

As the record shows, the Master's early followers experienced in great measure the reality of the peace he gave them. They felt an inward quietude. They imparted it to others. And they brought a new kind of peace, a divine harmony that blessed the society in which they labored.

Indeed, it sees the Christ and peace as inseparably related. The Christ, as Christian Science teaches, is not personal, although Jesus' unique exemplification of the Christ has made him known appropriately as Christ Jesus. The Christ is the divine idea of being illuminating human consciousness, saving it from material misconceptions. In Mrs. Eddy's words, "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness."Science and Health, p. 332;
