We Must Expect to Be Safe

From the April 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Expectancy of good promotes the experience of good. Because human existence is a mental phenomenon, it is formed and shaped by human thought.

But a secure sense that good is inevitable must be based on more than mere optimism. The Christian Scientist understands that good is much greater than the human manifestation of it. He expects good because he perceives in a degree that God is infinite, intelligent good, divine Mind, and that this infinitely good Mind is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient. In reality, God is the Mind of man, the divine Principle of his every thought and act. Consequently, the real man's experience must be wholly good.

As these great facts dawn in human consciousness, doubt and anxiety take flight. Spiritual sense unfolds the safety and security of Love's all-encompassing presence. We see more clearly that good is, and are assured of its continuance. We learn that Godlike thinking molds human experience into forms of harmony, safety, abundance, and health. Mrs. Eddy states incisively: "There is no door through which evil can enter, and no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness. Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from the attacks of error of every sort." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 210;
