The world's need and The Mother Church's response

["Each Christian Scientist has both an individual and a collective mission of 'justice to himself and 'mercy to mortals.' Thus in healing humanity's difficulties the Christian Scientist actively reaches out to his immediate circle and to the larger 'circle of the earth.'"]

Social Action and the Christian Scientist

From the January 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Even a degree of spiritual understanding compels social awareness, responsibility, and action. An increasing understanding of Christian Science leads one naturally to expand his horizons until all mankind are included in one healing affection.

As the Christian Scientist gains a clearer and clearer realization that God's kingdom is come, that the reign and rule of Spirit is a present reality "in earth, as it is in heaven,"Matt. 6:10; entrenched hatred, envy, greed, prejudice, jealousy, are rooted out. Whatever is ungodlike in thought and life gives way to increased spiritual understanding.

Freed of befogging and limiting beliefs and convictions, thought is open to new views, to more spiritual and moral ways to resolve the manifold problems of mankind. Turning from mesmerized, willful thinking, and opening thought to divine guidance, individuals are led to take whatever human steps are necessary to improve the human condition.
