Mother love is one of the most admirable forms of human expression. By it a mother reflects a measure of the loving care of Father-Mother God. Do some people find that a new way of naming God?
Popular belief over many centuries had conceived of God as Father. Often He was considered a stern Parent, arbitrarily handing down harsh decisions. Advancing spiritual understanding brought mankind a wider sense of God as a source of Love as well as justice. Isaiah proclaimed: "For thus saith the Lord .... As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you."Isa. 66:12, 13;
Christ Jesus exemplified this comforting love of God in his healing works. And later Mrs. Eddy, who discovered the Science of his work and teachings, stated clearly that God is Mother as well as Father. "Love, the divine Principle, is the Father and Mother of the universe, including man,"Science and Health, p. 256; she writes in Science and Health.
