Man Is Not Confused

From the April 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In a period of rapid change it is reassuring to ponder the Psalmist's words, "In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion."Ps.71:1; Such prayer is both protective and curative. Trust in God, combined with spiritual understanding, guides us safely through the wilderness of shifting values and opinions. Scientific prayer also heals an anxious, distracted sense of things and enables us to prove that man is not confused.

It often requires persistent prayer to overcome a sense of confusion, for confusion claims to be the very substance of our thinking. But a profound and perfect remedy is always at hand—the understanding that God is the only Mind. Infinite, omnipresent Mind is the source of all intelligence, the creator of all that is real, enduring, and good. Mind unfolds and protects its ideas, integrates them, and maintains their orderly relationship to one another. Confusion, frustration, turmoil, never enter the eternal oneness of God and His ideas, for Mind's infinite power and presence preclude them. The Scriptures state, "God is not the author of confusion, but of peace."I Cor. 14:33;

Because confusion does not originate in God, man cannot express it, for he is the image and likeness of infinite Spirit, divine Principle. Nor can man experience confusion, because he is, now and forever, the perfect reflection of perfect Mind. Confusion cannot be where man is, for man dwells in the orderly realm of Soul. It cannot hamper man's intelligent activity, for the divine Principle, Love, controls all action.
