The inner joy one experiences when living the truths of Christian Science is so far beyond any human happiness that it is sometimes difficult to find words to express this sense of dominion.
The greatest step forward in my spiritual progress was class instruction. It was such an important step in my experience that I encourage anyone who has been thinking about it to pray daily for the unfoldment leading to class, since mortal mind continually tempts us to give up our efforts to have this priceless experience. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 147): "Although this volume contains the complete Science of Mind-healing, never believe that you can absorb the whole meaning of the Science by a simple perusal of this book. The book needs to be studied, and the demonstration of the rules of scientific healing will plant you firmly on the spiritual groundwork of Christian Science."
This statement pointed to my need for deeper study and turned my thought seriously toward applying for class. When I applied and was accepted, there was neither a financial problem nor a problem of finding the time to have class. However, on the day that class began a member of my family with whom I was living became critically ill. The picture was so bleak that it was questionable whether I would be able to continue beyond that first day. I told my teacher of the situation, and she immediately pointed out mortal mind's attempt to rob me of this progressive step. She prayerfully supported me in my effort to see the right solution. I knew that harmony had been evident in the steps I had taken up to this point, and that the law which had been operating then had not diminished. Therefore it would be up to me to see the situation in the holiest light I could, and, having prayed, I would listen for the right solution.
