This healing took place in 1962, when I had first arrived in New England to help my daughter care for a young son.
Being a newcomer, I knew little about weather conditions, but after a whole day of rain we set out to attend a lecture in The Mother Church. As soon as we were out on the street, the rain came down with renewed force. While we were standing in our attempt to get in the car, I felt pain in my arm but gave it little heed. We drove home after the lecture in what appeared to be a northeaster. I went to sleep without doing any prayerful work about my arm. When I arose the next morning, I was shocked to find I was in extreme pain. I immediately called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer.
In the meantime, while in this condition of severe suffering, I began to think. I wondered where and how our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, got the courage to write "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of the textbook, Science and Health. She did not have the comfort of a practitioner as I was having. That statement denies everything we have clung to all our lives as material laws, and it certainly demanded courage to write it. The answer to this question came quickly and firmly. She got the courage and spiritual insight to write it from divine Mind, Spirit, revealing itself to her receptive thought. I pondered the statement that ends with these words: "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." My healing came quickly, so that I could give a testimony about it the following Wednesday evening.
