Mary Baker Eddy: The One to Discover and Found Christian Science

From the January 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Mrs. Eddy's name is mentioned, a student of her books may have a mental picture of her. Perhaps of a hardworking American woman—a pioneer in the realm of Spirit, working and working to write down in human terms the spiritual, Christly ideas that she had received from God and proved would heal the sick. Perhaps of a motherly friend and teacher reaching out to help each reader individually, to show him what to do. Perhaps of a commanding leader of a worldwide church organization, a wise and able administrator.

The world sees Mrs. Eddy in just these ways, and from the world's point of view they are right. But Mrs. Eddy has said, "Those who look for me in person, or else-where than in my writings, lose me instead of find me."The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 120;

The disciples lost sight of Christ Jesus when they thought of him as a human being who died and was buried. But they found him again. Those who walked with him to Emmaus felt their hearts burn within them as he explained to them the truth of spiritual being. He lifted their thinking beyond human events to discern the spiritual idea, the Messiah, or Christ, that was prophesied in the Bible and which he exemplified.
