An Enlarged View of Radical Reliance

From the January 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Radical reliance on God, divine Truth, means far more than not turning to material medicine. Although not mixing the two systems of healing is a good beginning, much more than this is required. Radical reliance involves radical thinking as much as radical action. Indeed, radical action that is wise and effective depends on radical thinking that is rightly informed. And Christian Science provides the needed understanding.

The radical thinking that bases itself in Truth and never falters in the face of material evidence brings forth the desired freedom. Turning away from material methods, and relying scientifically and entirely on God, results in healing.

When helping someone attain physical healing through spiritual means, a practitioner often finds that the physical symptoms of the disease are only as fixed as the wavering mental states retarding healing. Regardless of what the physical evidence is, these false mental states present themselves in almost every case. The patient who radically relies on Truth consistently gains the victory over these mental errors. Mrs. Eddy strongly reminds us, "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized."Science and Health, p. 167;
