Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and the Christian Science Quarterly have been familiar to me since my mother taught me to study the Bible Lesson daily and to read The Herald of Christian Science in the German language.
I always had Christian Science at hand but did not make an effort to apply it. When I needed help, I sought it from a practitioner and read whatever fell into my hands at that moment; but once the problem was over, I would again let my books rest.
Then there arrived a time of what seemed tremendous hardships. I realized that by myself I could do nothing. I found myself confronting a disastrous family situation. Besides, I had two small children and was expecting another. I was without financial resources of my own, and had never worked outside the home. I was deeply hurt, embittered, and very young.
