My commitment to Christian Science as a way of life began during my senior year in college. It had been a number of years since I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School, and I was seriously searching for a religion or philosophy to guide my life.
My mother had given me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to take to college, and occasionally I read it. I was also visiting a number of churches of other denominations. During a period of many challenges I came to the point where I had to say, "Father, help me!" My prayer was soon answered. I attended the Christian Science college organization on campus and services in a branch church, and I visited a Christian Science Reading Room.
Most impressive to me were the testimonies of campus students and church members; they convinced me that prayers are actually being answered today. Also, the many wonderful testimonies of healing and spiritual regeneration in the Christian Science periodicals gave me courage and inspiration. I began to see that the Comforter is here with us at all times—the healing Christ-power has not been lost and can be practiced by all, now! This was the message of hope I had been searching for. Soon I was demonstrating the truth in my own life.
