There is a cure for the common cold. This disease, just as any other, must submit to the power of Christ, Truth. The world of medicine, after centuries of effort, still offers no real solution. Christian Science explains that no true answer ever will be found through medical practice. While a materially based system may sometimes subdue symptoms, genuine healing will always elude those who search for a remedy in matter. Although some researchers are exploring the human mind for answers (as evidenced in a magazine title: "The common cold is mainly in the mind" New Scientist, February 28, 1980;), most people who suffer a cold would still describe the experience as a very physical event.
Divine Science claims no snap-of-the-fingers formula for disposing of the common cold. It shows instead how, through deep spiritual regeneration, every individual can learn to establish a measure of Christly immunity from all disease, including the common cold. An understanding of God's law of unchanging perfection will enable him to heal whatever physical discord does crop up, regardless of its medical name.
The human mind is misguided (perhaps one could more accurately say it is essentially lazy) when it comes to conquering colds. It tends to accept the simplistic alternative: take a pill and take it easy. That approach doesn't really exact too much from the individual. The scientifically Christian method of cure is deeply demanding and far more effective. It calls for a change of base in thought, an actual regeneration. Time is not the controlling factor; instead, an awakening to the divine law that unfailingly preserves health is required. Such kindling in consciousness, or pure enlightenment, may come gradually; it may come instantly.
