Healings within my own family, if told in detail, would fill the testimony sections of several issues of the Christian Science periodicals.
Both my husband and I were convinced of the efficacy of Christian Science long before we met at college. His sister had been healed of a speech defect, and this healing brought his family into Science. He himself was healed of a leg injury that had made it necessary for him to use crutches; and he went on to become a runner on the school track team. During early years in the Navy he enjoyed many protections through scientific prayer—including once when he was on a sinking submarine, and once when piloting a plane, lost in a storm.
My father, however, was opposed to this Science, so my study was carried on rather furtively. Nonetheless, I still turned to God for help on many occasions. It was not until my marriage to a class-taught student though—one who was always ready and willing to take radical stands with me for absolute reliance on God—that the greatest healings came about. Sometimes these came about with the help of a Christian Science practitioner, but more often they were accomplished solely through our own prayer and study.
