I am grateful to testify to the healing efficacy of Christian Science, and to say with certainty I know that God is the only true physician. Two summers ago, in an auto accident, I incurred a head injury and a broken wrist. Immediately I turned to God and pondered the first two sentences of "the scientific statement of being" in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." The knowledge that I was enfolded in God's love wiped out all fear, and I was able to talk calmly with the individuals who came to help me.
Although I was taken to the emergency room of a hospital, I told the staff that I was a Christian Scientist and did not want any medical treatment. This alarmed them somewhat, as they wished to give me what they felt was the most effective aid available. A nurse agreed to telephone my mother and ask her to call a Christian Science practitioner to help me through prayer. Soon all pain ceased.
X-rays were taken of my wrist, and a doctor said that a bone surgeon should set the break, which was considered a serious one. I felt so close to God, as His spiritual offspring, that I was neither alarmed nor overwhelmed by the doctor's predictions. Although the accident had been the other driver's fault, I harbored no animosity or resentment. The head wound was taped, and a splint was applied to the wrist; While I waited for my family, I prayed quietly and recalled part of a statement from No and Yes by Mrs. Eddy (p. 30): "God's law is in three words, 'I am All.'" Later, I looked up the entire statement and found that it concludes with these words: "and this perfect law is ever present to rebuke any claim of another law." I could feel God's allness supporting me, sustaining me, and illumining my consciousness, and I knew that no belief of accident or injury could annul this law.
