Lesson from nature

From the December 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Ice on the sidewalk,
impenetrably
hard and cold.
Part of the sidewalk?
So it seems,
until sunbeams—
warming,
softening,
loosening—
melt away hard shell of ice.

Hate in the heart,
impenetrably
hard and cold.
Part of the heart?
So it seems,
until Love's beams—
forgiving,
redeeming,
restoring—
melt away hard shell of hate.

Beams of Love
free the heart
from winter's discontent;
ending ice age,
revealing image—
God's idea, man—
loved,
loving,
lovable:
hate-free,
universally!
