A young mother in the practice writes

From the March 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Are you interested in becoming a Journal-listed Christian Science practitioner? Then, I hope these suggestions will help you.

1. Check your motives. The desire to help others through prayer comes from God. It comes to be fulfilled in faithful service to mankind, not to make you feel frustrated or a failure. God is the healer. As I worked to express more of God in my life, I became less fearful of the practice. Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, assures us in Science and Health, "Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action." Science and Health, p. 454.

2. Get the requirements for Journal listing by writing to The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. Don't assume that they are too high or that you have to meet all of them before you can even write to the Practitioners and Nursing Activities Department about your interest in becoming a full-time practitioner. My beginning practice was strengthened as I prayerfully considered the ethical requirements involved and endeavored to meet them.
