I share this healing with readers of the Christian Science periodicals in the hope it will encourage especially those who have been working out a problem over an extended period of time.
Quite a number of years ago, when our two children were in the lower grades, my husband had a full-time job in the space industry. He also invested in construction, and managed and did much of the work of maintaining some thirty rental housing units. I helped where I could—taking phone calls, handling advertising and cleaning. I was also very active in my branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and served as a "room mother" at the school our children attended. There seemed to be constant demands on my time from many directions, and in trying to please everyone, I began feeling a sense of conflict and burden. Finally this mental state was manifested bodily.
One day I was cleaning a rental unit my parents owned when I suddenly felt as though something were trying to crush the breath out of me. When the symptoms became so aggressive I could no longer work, I lay down and tried to pray. Statements I had learned through the study of Christian Science came to thought, particularly these from "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." In about fifteen minutes I felt perfectly all right. About this time, my parents stopped by the apartment, discovered what had happened, and insisted I go home and rest. I assured them I felt fine, but I went home anyway, thanking God and feeling no fear—determined not to make a reality of something God had not created.
