Worshiping through healing

From the March 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

From the first book of the Bible, spiritual healing has been linked with prayerful worship of God (see Gen. 20: 17). Christ Jesus cited his spiritual healing works to substantiate his very sonship with God, his Messiahship (see Luke 7:19-22). Crediting Jesus for the healing he had just experienced, a man who had been blind from birth said: "If any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. . . . If this man were not of God, he could do nothing." John 9:31, 33.

Mrs. Eddy's discovery of divine Science, the Comforter Jesus promised, was confirmed by radical healing effects. For instance, at the close of a series of sermons that Mrs. Eddy preached in the late 1870's at the Baptist Tabernacle in Boston, testimonies were given by individuals who had been healed while attending. Yet she had not even heard of these cases until the people testified. (See Retrospection and Introspection 15:13-16:15.) Christian Science had healed them!

As Science and Health, the textbook Mrs. Eddy wrote, became more and more widely circulated, written accounts poured in to her from people healed by simply reading and drinking in the truth in the book. Here was proof that her discovery was indeed the Comforter, and a Science, a system of divine healing—healing dependent on the understanding and practice of divine Principle, God, and not on a mortal personality or on blind faith.
