THE CHURCH IN ACTION

Reading Rooms

The touch of the Christ

From the January 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The following experiences were sent from a branch church in Western Australia.

We have many people who come to our Reading Room feeling a sense of loss— loss of dignity, hope, faith, of someone they love dearly, or perhaps a loss of the true sense of substance or joy. They need the touch of the Christ, and we pray to see that this can happen. A woman came to us very distressed indeed. She told us that, because of a business deal, she had lost all that she had, including her home.

She had known of Christian Science many years before and now, in her distress, had sought out the Reading Room. We comforted her by pointing out that God really is in complete control of her life—not mankind or any business situation—and that this control is entirely good and blesses all. We invited her to spend some time in the study room, which she did. We also suggested she might wish to contact a Christian Science practitioner (we do not know if she did so).
