In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy counsels (p. 167), "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized."
Some time ago I had an opportunity to prove the truth of this statement. I was employed in a nursing facility for Christian Scientists over one hundred miles from my home, traveling back and forth each week. During one of my trips to work I lost control of the car and collided with a large truck along the highway where some road work was being done.
I prayerfully called on everything I had ever learned in Christian Science of God and His care for me. My car was wrecked and I was injured, yet I was able to remain calm and answer all questions asked of me by the highway patrolman who arrived at the scene. At my request he immediately made two calls for me from his car—one to a Christian Science practitioner, and one to the facility to tell them what had happened and that I would not be coming to work.
