Protecting the Readership from sensuality

[Name withheld by request]

From the October 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Though I have studied Christian Science all my life, it was only recently that I had ever read through consecutively our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. By turning to our pastor— the Bible and our textbook—I was healed of the most serious problem I had ever encountered.

I was finishing a three-year term as First Reader at my branch church. During this term the Second Reader and I became good friends, and our families often vacationed together. As our term of Readership was ending, however, I became strongly drawn to her. It was a challenging situation, because we practiced alone and read together every Sunday. I thought it could never happen to me, since I am happily married.

Just prior to this situation, I had opened an office in town to start the public practice of Christian Science. But I began to feel as if I had opened Pandora's box!
