Divine theology heals

From the November 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Genuine theology must be known by its beneficial effects. True theologians, therefore, could be said to be known by their works. Mrs. Eddy explains, "The theology of Christian Science is Truth; opposed to which is the error of sickness, sin, and death, that Truth destroys."Miscellaneous Writings, p. 62.

Christian Science teaches that as the likeness of God, spiritual man—our true identity—knows and manifests the perfection and completeness of God's creating. In effect, then, man bears witness to divine theology. And as we express our true nature, the spiritual understanding we so naturally include comes to light in acts of healing and redemption.

Our views of religious subjects shape our very lives. Current theological trends in popular thought tend to have an effect in forming world conditions. If we wish to heal the underlying causes of distress, it may therefore be necessary to consider religious opinion. One view that has needed attention in recent years—a conviction that is the very opposite of scientific theology—is the theory that "God is dead."
