Don’t neglect to water your garden

From the January 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (John 4:14)

Prayer, watching, and working, combined with self-immolation, are God's gracious means for accomplishing whatever has been successfully done for the Christianization and health of mankind. (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health,p. 1)

Recently I went out to my garden and found that my Christmas roses were drooping badly. Their stalks were bent over, and their leaves lay on the ground. I hadn't watered them, because it had rained a few days before and my gardener was always warning me not to overwater my plants. So I got out the hose and gave them a drink. A few hours later they were still pretty pathetic. But the next morning they looked beautiful, full and free, with their leaves reaching toward the sun. Those little plants taught me a valuable lesson.
