Testimonies of Healing

One weekend several years ago my wife...

From the August 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One weekend several years ago my wife and I visited friends in western Massachusetts. On Sunday morning our entourage hurriedly got ready to attend a branch church service in a nearby town. While I was dressing, I ran down the hallway of their antique house, smacked into the top of the bedroom doorframe (a doorframe that was four inches shorter than I am), and fell to the floor.

My wife saw what had happened and ran to help me. "God is Love," she said immediately, "and all is well." There was a bad head wound, and I was barely conscious. But I soon could think more clearly. As I did, I realized two spiritual facts (with no apparent effort on my part yet with more clarity than I had ever had before).

First, I saw evidence of the wound and found myself thinking, "This is just a simulation." Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy refers to matter's simulated sense of Life when it states (p. 376): "The pallid invalid, whom you declare to be wasting away with consumption of the blood, should be told that blood never gave life and can never take it away,—that Life is Spirit, and that there is more life and immortality in one good motive and act, than in all the blood which ever flowed through mortal veins and simulated a corporeal sense of life."
