Christian Science has richly blessed me over many years. It has healed me of numerous physical ills, including fainting spells, a lame back, facial neuralgia, headaches, and a sudden heart attack. Through the study of Science I have found wonderful guidance in changing and establishing homes on several occasions, and in making wise financial decisions. And the spiritual understanding I have gained in Christian Science has enabled me to meet emergencies with equanimity and proper direction rather than react emotionally.
One particular healing, which occurred in January 1986 and for which my gratitude is boundless, was that of a severe fall. There was never a diagnosis, but the thigh area was affected and the leg rendered useless. Greater even than the physical discomfort was my concern as to how I could be cared for. My prayerful desire was to rely solely on Christian Science for healing. A loved statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was clearly proved (p. 494): "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." I received the gentle, patient care of my husband, of our two daughters and a Christian Scientist friend, the faithful prayers of a Christian Science practitioner, and the loving support expressed in many practical ways by fellow branch church members.
This was a period of marked spiritual growth for me. The outpouring of love expressed to me at this time taught me something more of the limitless bounty of God's love in ways I could understand and moreover accept graciously. I had always had a deep-seated tendency to rush. Now I saw that my always trying to beat the clock was a subtle form of egotism, suggesting that I as a mortal person had to accomplish things. I began to recognize and acknowledge that I, as God's spiritual idea, reflect His unfolding activity.
