Christian Science has been an anchor in the lives of members of my family for five generations. It began with my two grandmothers before the end of the last century, and it is continuing today in the lives of my grandsons. Down through the years children in our family have been cared for safely and quickly through their own prayers, as well as through the prayers of their parents and Christian Science practitioners.
At one point my paternal grandmother's infant son began to manifest symptoms of a disease that had cost the life of her first child. My grandmother turned to a Christian Science practitioner for help, upon the recommendation of her family physician, who had tried in vain to save the other child. The boy was healed and lived to more than fourscore years and ten.
My parents were both class-taught Christian Scientists when they married, so we children were brought up to turn to God in prayer for all our needs. We attended a Christian Science Sunday School regularly. We were healed quickly of measles, mumps, and chicken pox. At the age of five I became ill with fever and delirium; one of my legs became swollen and very painful. With the prayerful help of a practitioner and the steadfast prayers of my parents, the condition was completely healed.
