Church Bulletin Board

From the May 1989 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Whether at a shopping mall, on a college campus, or in the foyer of a church, a bulletin board is a great place for people to share information. You can learn a lot about an active community from reading local bulletin boards. We hope you'll enjoy this bulletin board and feel encouraged to join in and share experiences.

While on an out-of-town business trip, I located a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and attended the Sunday service. The ushers and members greeted me warmly, and I was certainly grateful for the love expressed.

But I was especially touched by the practical tenderness expressed between two individuals who attended that morning. A senior woman in a wheelchair was assisted to the pew in front of me. All through the service, while still being very attentive to the church service, her young companion made sure the older woman was comfortable . . . but not just comfortable. I could see that she made her feel loved. She held her hand, put her arm around her, and helped her during the hymns and the Responsive Reading, and occasionally gently fanned the older woman on that hot Sunday.
