I first began to attend services in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, with my husband. He was attracted to the spiritual qualities of compassion and intelligence that he felt were expressed by the members there. Later, when my husband suffered an illness, operations and other medical care proved to be of no avail. At that point we turned wholeheartedly to the study of Christian Science for help.
The Christian Science radio program, The Truth That Heals, telling how others had been healed of fear and disease, gave us much inspiration and comfort. Fear of symptoms and their effects was often distressing, but the wonderful illumination that Mrs. Eddy's writings bring to the Scriptures encouraged and inspired our efforts to understand God. Within about twelve months my husband was healed. Also, at that time we were both healed of smoking.
As my parents observed these healings, they gladly realized that Christian Science taught the spiritual truths of God that they had long sought. Soon they became students of Christian Science. My father was quickly healed of the effects of mustard gas, which had caused him to be bedridden from severe coughing every winter for twenty-five years.
