My parents came into Christian Science during the early twenties after my father had been told by several doctors that he would never walk again. With prayerful treatment from a Christian Science practitioner, he had a quick and permanent healing. As a result of this, God became our family's only physician. My parents were soon regular attendants at a branch church, and all five of us children were pupils in a Christian Science Sunday School until we each reached twenty years of age. (My parents later joined The Mother Church and a branch church.) I have had many healings during my lifetime.
In 1950 my wife and I left Maine for New Jersey, where I was employed as a foreman on the construction of the state's turnpike. In 1951 my father, who had taken an early retirement, came to New Jersey to work with me. One day I was hit by a ten-wheel truck. I was knocked down and run over.
My father, seeing what had happened, signaled the driver to move. I had been pressed, face down, several inches into the sandy soil. My father turned me over and started speaking to me of God and His loving care of man. Upon regaining consciousness and hearing my father's statements of God and His allness, I said, "I'm with you, Pop."
