From the January 1992 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many years ago, during my last year at school, I stopped to look in the window of a Christian Science Reading Room. A Bible was open to these words of Christ Jesus: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father" (John). There was also a correlative statement in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. These passages so impressed me that I was determined to find out if healings in Christian Science are like those illustrated in the Bible.

The next morning I asked our school matron if she knew anything about Christian Science. I learned then that she was a student of this Science. She kindly lent me a copy of Science and Health, and she told me of the benefits she had received through practice of its teachings.

While I was reading Science and Health over the weekend, I kept going back in thought to the first sentence of its Preface: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." On Monday morning I returned to school, not noticing until it was brought to my attention later in the day that I was not wearing my glasses. My eyes had been healed while I was reading Science and Health. A few months later I passed the medical examinations, including eye tests, which qualified me to enter the Merchant Navy as a cadet officer.
