When I was a child, a medical examination at school resulted in the prognosis that I would never be healthy enough to participate in sports and that I would have to be very careful about physical activity. I was diagnosed as having asthma. My mother was told that when climbing stairs I would have to rest every few steps.
Shortly thereafter my mother took up the study of Christian Science. From that time forward, the condition continued to lessen, and I have been completely free for many years. I took part in many sporting activities without any trouble. I was too young to know exactly what she included in her prayer for me, but I do know that it was effective. Mother later became a Christian Science practitioner.
I attended the Christian Science Sunday School until I reached twenty. In spite of this training, however, I was still a Christian Scientist in name only. But later I married a wonderful girl who was a "real, practicing" Scientist. With her help and example I finally was able to learn how to practice this Science on my own. With this came the healing of social drinking and smoking.
