Procrastination. That's a word that used to make me cringe with guilt (and sometimes still does). But I'm making progress in overcoming the temptation to avoid facing challenges.
Christian Science has helped a lot. Its teachings bring out what the Bible says God is —good itself, divine Spirit, pure Love; and what man really is, made in God's image—spiritual and good, expressing His nature. As we begin to understand these facts, we can apply them to heal what needs healing in our lives, regardless of the nature of the trouble. We don't, then, have to avoid facing challenges.
On the basis that Spirit, God, fills all space and is therefore the only genuine substance, we can come to see that matter is really insubstantial—a temporal, changeable, mental concept. This is why we can gain dominion over, and heal through prayer, apparently stubborn physical conditions. This may seem astounding to those new to Christian Science, but it is the basic premise from which all spiritual healing proceeds. The Bible asks, "Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?" James 3:11. Either all is Spirit or all is matter. God, Spirit, is unchanging good. Matter can never offer stability and immutability. It represents a false view of creation.
