You can't change the law of spiritual reality—the allness and supremacy of God, good, and the absolute goodness of God's spiritual idea, man. Neither can anyone else. As the Psalmist says, "For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven." Ps. 119:89. But you can live more and more in accord with divine law. You can be a law to yourself. That's what Christ Jesus did.
Jesus understood the goodness and supremacy of God. And he understood his spiritual identity, the Son of God, to be as good—as pure and sinless—as God is. He also understood that sinless man is the true identity of every child, woman, and man. Jesus never saw the sinfulness of mortal man as the reality of anyone. His mental practice was to be a law to his own view of himself and others by keeping his thought and character in constant agreement with the law of spiritual reality.
This right (sinless) mental practice rendered Jesus invulnerable to harm from the wrong (sinful) mental practice, or malpractice, of the carnal mind, or what Jesus called "the prince of this world." He said, "The prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me." John 14:30. In other words, Jesus' mental practice of allowing only God to have authority over his thoughts—of steadfastly conforming to God's law of purity within himself—kept him and his mission safe. And although Jesus was subjected to temptation, as the Bible makes clear, there was nothing in him that could be made to sin or that could be harmed by the sinful thoughts of others. No matter what others tried to do to hinder Jesus' practice of spiritual Truth, he always triumphed through that very practice. That's what Jesus expected his followers to do, with the help of his teachings and example (which are recorded in the Word of God, the Holy Bible) and of the Comforter's elucidation of his teachings.
