Editors' note: We thought you 'd enjoy—as we did—listening in on the following talk given to a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. The speaker is Barbara-jean Stinson, a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science.
Recently, I read again the By-Law titled "Testimonials" in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy.
It says in part, "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)." Manual, Art. VIII, Sect. 24. I was arrested by that compelling phrase, "the demonstration of Christ"—and I thought, Isn't that it? Just as a physical healing must come through the demonstration of Christ in our lives, so giving a testimony in church or writing a testimony for the Christian Science periodicals must also express the demonstration of Christ in our thoughts. That's the substance, or essence, of testifying.
