God's expression and the practice of Christian Science

From the May 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God is never dormant. He is continuously expressing Himself. The expression, or effect, of God is spiritual man and the universe.

That doesn't mean, though, that God or God's expression permeates matter, includes matter, or even admits matter. His expression consists entirely of divine ideas. It is completely mental—that is, embraced in divine Mind. God, and God's thoughts, are the only substance, the only reality. Only God's action, or expression, is true expression. And it is always active good.

"God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis," Science and Health, p. 258. writes Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health. This encouraging sentence clearly shows the unlimited possibilities of man as God's expression. To me the first four words point out a way for this truth to be fulfilled in our lives: that is, to acknowledge that the action of expression is always God's action, reflected by man.
