Resolving conflict

From the May 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Recently I found myself involved in a conflict with several friends. Each strongly felt that his or her view and approach were more right than the others'. There appeared to be no grounds for a resolution. As I agonized over what seemed an insurmountable, growing gulf between us, I turned to God in prayer for an answer.

It was several days before I gained a sense of peace. And when it finally came it was sudden—the inspiration that brought the peace came to me as a whole idea in just a very few moments. From the best of my remembrance, the thoughts unfolded like this:

Materialistic reasoning claims there are varying human opinions on any given subject, and that such variance can be good, stimulating, healthy. Such claims overlook the fact that since the one God is in truth the only Mind, and man is God's image, we do not actually have separate minds of our own, holding entrenched, varying opinions. Spiritual reality includes only the oneness of God, the oneness of Mind. We demonstrate freedom from conflict only as we live from the basis of what God knows, sees, is doing.
