Letters

From the April 1995 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The August 15, 1994, issue of the [ Christian Science ] Sentinel,* was focused on school, with an especially compelling interview with a Christian Scientist who is the superintendent of schools for Decatur, Georgia. It told of how years of prayer and working together have raised the students' test scores to a consistently high level in this low-income area. I felt the superintendent of the Trenton, New Jersey, schools might like to see this. So I sent the Sentinel to her with a letter pointing out the article, and extending a note of appreciation for her hard work, which we're always reading about in the newspaper ....

Also an early September issue of the Sentinel that had "The spiritual power of HONESTY" on its cover was shared with our neighbor across the street. The testimony by Joyce Milgaard, about her son being in prison for a crime he didn't commit, compelled this sharing. Our neighbor's son has been accused of a shooting death at a nearby university, which he swears he didn't do. Later, this neighbor came over and thanked me, saying the Sentinel had come at a time when she really needed it. She said she had read it, and was going to read it over and over again. She said things had been very hard but that she needed to trust God and know that the truth would be revealed, and that the sentinel had helpaed her with this.
