The March 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal, and the Annual Meeting report carried in the July 1996 issue, focused on the healing mission, purpose, focus, and current priorities of the Church of Christ, Scientist. As a continuing report on how the Church is going forward in this work, various senior managers at The Mother Church have been invited to write for the Journal a brief account of how workers in their area of activity are approaching these goals. This month, Dorothy Howell Cork, Executive Manager in the Office of the Clerk, tells something about the way this office is approaching one of the principal areas of focus: supporting and engaging the membership in its efforts "to live for all mankind. "
Are there opportunities for members of the Church of Christ, Scientist, to help and bless others? Of course. All one need do is look at the local community and the larger world picture— glance through a sampling of books, newspapers, and magazines, catch television and radio news updates, hear comments at restaurants, during work commutes, or while rollerblading, or browse the Internet's World Wide Web. Mankind is crying out for healing answers and solutions to world situations.
Here in the Office of the Clerk, we have the privilege of being in touch with members and branch churches worldwide and facilitating their sharing the good works they are doing. "Supporting and engaging the membership in its efforts to live for all mankind"—one of the focus areas identified in the mission statement—is at the heart of our activity. This particular focus of our Church gives members individually and collectively a clear foundation and direction for sharing the message of the transforming power of the healing laws of God.
