A writer from Idaho shares some thoughts about giving out copies of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy:
"I've enjoyed being more spiritually responsive to honest hearts that are searching for answers. The author of Science and Health obviously expected her book to reach an audience far beyond readers already committed to its message when she emphasizes the term all in the passage 'In divine Science, where prayers are mental, all may avail themselves of God as "a very present help in trouble." ' Science and Health, pp. 12-13.
"I've been thinking about a description in Science and Health that the author gives to receptive hearts, and then her call 'Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences.' Ibid., p. 570 . In the past I had applied this statement by making an effort to be less shy about sharing Science and Health when encountering someone I felt would be genuinely responsive. But recently I've been applying its message a little differently. Mrs. Eddy describes fear in a number of ways. In the Glossary of Science and Health, for example, the term ignorance is used as a description of fear. See ibid., p. 586 . "This has provided me with a fresh view when I share Science and Health —refusing to be ignorant about consequences. Often in the past I didn't necessarily know how the book was blessing its recipient, but now my thought is much more open to learning how the recipient is being blessed by the book. And I'm finding opportunities to follow up when it becomes apparent there is a need to continue nurturing the gift I've given and the fulfillment of its purpose."
