After I had taken Christian Science class instruction, I felt the need of studying the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy in depth. I wanted to be obedient to the Manual by applying its By-Laws in my everyday activities. One By-Law from the section "Discipline," titled "Church Periodicals," arrested my attention. It reads: "It shall be the privilege and duty of every member, who can afford it, to subscribe for the periodicals which are the organs of this Church". 1
Somehow I had always thought of this as only meaning if I could afford it. But now it came clearly to my thought, I can afford to subscribe. It seemed clear to me that it wasn't enough for my husband to subscribe to the periodicals for us both. Although I was no longer employed outside the home, I determined that, as an active, privileged, and dutiful member of The Mother Church, I could make the demonstration to pay for my own subscriptions.
I studied references from the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings on supply, abundance, amplitude, and economy. This study made me feel closer to God as the real source of supply.
