On board the USS Missouri a few years ago, when the ship's "Plan of the Day" was distributed to the crew, each issue carried a "Chaplain's Corner." Every day a small illustrated box included a verse from the Bible or an inspirational quotation. The box that appeared one morning offered a deceptively simple message: Chaplain's corner "may you live all the days of your life" —Jonathan Swift
As I thought about it, I was struck by how significant—and profound—Jonathan Swift's guidance really is. People's lives can too often seem like sleepwalking, or merely existing, or just managing to get through it all. The spark, the joy, the purpose and richness, even the adventure, can be lost to the sameness or hardness of simply getting by from one day to the next.
Yet the love and grace of God offer a fresh challenge to that kind of living. The love and grace of God speak to the human heart, saying that this very day has meaning. It's a good day. It's a day for you to grow and prosper in. It's a day worth living. It is, after all, God's day—and so is the next day, and the one after that, and all the days of your life.
