"How I study the Bible Lesson—and put it into practice"

From the June 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This feature gives readers an opportunity to share with one another helpful approaches to their study of the Bible Lessons published in the Christian Science Quarterly, and how they put what they learn into practice in their lives. These Bible Lessons consist of references from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.

When an Air Force colleague introduced me to Christian Science during the Second World War, I desperately wanted to understand God. My colleague suggested that daily study of the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly would help me in my search. The Christian Science Publishing Society kindly presented me with complimentary Pocket Editions of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, together with a copy of the Quarterly.

Although it wasn't easy to study in wartime conditions, I found that if I could read at least one section of the Lesson before rising each morning, it gave me the spiritual food I needed. As I learned more of the nature of God and of man as His spiritual image and likeness, I began to experience spiritual regeneration. Also, I found that the more I expressed Godlike qualities such as mercy, compassion, and unselfed love, the more harmonious my service duties became.
