A lot of good has come to...

From the August 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A lot of good has come to me through my growing understanding of God. I'd particularly like to express my appreciation to God for the healing of a very disturbing skin condition. Although it was hidden from general view, it was not only ugly but openly sore and continuously discomforting to me. I prayed about this over a couple of months, and was led through doing so to put behind me a moral deficiency in my own behavior. At this point the condition disappeared from the place where it had been, but reappeared in a new spot, equally invisible to others. At first this seemed exasperating, but then it seemed ridiculous! It was almost as if the physical symptoms had decided "We're not welcome here, lads. Let's move on."

Healed of severe
skin condition.

I heard a testimony at a branch church one night that talked about a different condition that had behaved in a similar fashion in response to prayer. At first it had just moved around the body, but then had finally been healed. This encouraged me to persist in my prayers. Then I came across the following passage in Science and Health: "Change the belief, and the sensation changes. Destroy the belief, and the sensation disappears" (p. 491). I recognized this as indicating to me that I had got as far as changing the belief, but not as far as destroying it. I continued praying to see the absolute unreality of any possible cause for the condition, and—as promised in the passage from Science and Health—the condition completely disappeared.
