About two years ago I registered for a symposium on spirituality and health care, an event intended for health-care administrators, hospital chaplains, social workers, and others in the health-care community, but open to anyone interested in the issues. I wanted to be better informed, to see how these issues were now perceived and pursued in our culture, and to think about them in the light of my own study of Christian Science.
The morning of the symposium, I woke with a painful and swollen eye. After studying the Bible Lesson (found in the Christian Science Quarterly) for that week, I determined to keep to my plan to go. But by the noon break I could no longer see well enough to drive. There was no one at home I could ask to come get me, so I began to think about what to do once the meeting was over.
Now, I know better than to try to solve a problem without turning to God. Since childhood I've had many experiences of healing, care, protection, guidance. I have learned over and over again to turn to God and seek spiritual understanding, to establish myself firmly in His kingdom, under His care, and to trust that care.
