FOR YOUR INFORMATION

From the June 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The 1999 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church will convene on Monday, June 7, at 1:30 p.m., in the Extension of The Mother Church. The meeting will last approximately two and a half hours, and child care will be provided for those too young to attend.

This year's meeting will be held for the purpose of "listening to the reports of Treasurer, Clerk, and Committees, and general reports from the Field" (Manual of The Mother Church, Art. XIII, Sect. I). It will highlight humanity's accelerating spiritual quest and the ways in which The Mother Church and its members are responding to it. Reports by church officers and from the Field will include a thoughtful look at the leavening effect Mary Baker Eddy's principal work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, is having on natural science today. These words of our Leader express what so many, including those in the natural sciences, are now intuitively yearning for: "This age is reaching out towards the perfect Principle of things; is pushing towards perfection in art, invention, and manufacture....Proportionately as we part with material systems and theories, personal doctrines and dogmas, meekly to ascend the hill of Science, shall we reach the maximum of perfection in all things" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 232). It is cause for rejoicing that humanity is increasingly perceiving the relevance of divine Principle in the fields of medicine, theology, and natural science.
